Mosaic Prayer 12/30/07

Father in Heaven, thank you for gathering us once again in this place that you love. As we look back upon the past year and as we look forward to the boundless potential and opportunities that you have in store for us in the coming year, we want to pause to thank you for all of the things that you’ve given to us and for the ways in which you’ve provided for us.

  •  We have not one, but two sanctuaries in which to praise you – may we always come with our hearts set more on giving back to you rather than receiving.
  •  You have raised leaders to go about the task of organizing and mobilizing Mosaic – may we submit to you in every way and seek your will and wisdom in all that we do, for if you don’t build this house, we labor in vain.
  •  You’ve increased our body from little more than a new plant – to 70 or 80 committed members that seek to do more than just play church.  Help us to let down our guards even more and stir within our hearts the passion and the desire to be a true community and to have fellowship as you intended your children to have.
  •  Thank you Father, for the countless other ways that you’ve provided for us, cared for us, protected us, all of the things that you’ve done for us behind the scenes or in ways that we’ve not recognized.  I pray that you would open our spiritual eyes and open our spiritual ears, so that we might see and hear better as you work in and around us each and every way so that we can recognize, acknowledge, and live more grateful lives.
  •  We thank you for bringing Pastor David Chae to this community to teach and to lead us and for bringing JaeMyung JDSN into our fold.  We ask your continued anointing upon their lives and would you use them mightily to do your work upon this community and upon this world.  To make a difference in the lives of those who need it most.  Most of all, Father, help us to be as much a blessing unto them as they are to us.  Let us all reflect you more.

It’s only when we look back that we see you moving in our lives, and we’re grateful that you give us this chance to take a break from the busy-ness of this season and just reflect on all that we have to be thankful for, and we have so much..

As we look to the New Year, we want to thank you for the things that you’re going to do in our lives individually, and corporately as Mosaic.  We see now but a glimpse of what you have in store for us – as we experienced on Christmas Day, in the very next room – a sanctuary filled with your children – representing 3 or 4 generations, united by a common language and common desire to worship you.  This is what you want Mosaic to look like in the years to come and 2008 will be a year when we lay the groundwork for that vision to become a reality.  Help us all to do our parts in this grand plan of yours.  Give us wisdom and discernment in the decisions that we make, give us faith that leads to action, give us courage to face the challenges that lie ahead, but above all, give us a keen sense of our weakness that drives us daily to our knees in search of you – through your Word and in Prayer.

Father, we long to be a church not that knows much, but Loves much.  Let us be your hands and feet in this community, in Northern New Jersey, in Metro NY, in the US, and the World at large – your hands and feet that bring your words of comfort, healing, and encouragement to those that are desperate for it and need it most.  Let us be the community that you desire for us to become.  No more and no less.

We trust that you’ll do this good work, Father, for I pray all these things in Jesus’ name, Amen

Mosaic Prayer 11/25/07

Heavenly Father, on Thanksgiving Weekend,
We bow our heads and hearts to you and pray.
We give thanks for all that you have done.
We give thanks for our gathering here today.
I thank and praise you for allowing me to stand before You and this church.
I recognize very well that I am unworthy of this honor and privilege but for your Grace I come before You seeking Your blessing on this Sunday service.
We give thanks for praising, to hear your message through Pastor David Chae, to listen and understand with our hearts
Be with those who lead us in worship.
Be near to those who sing and play instruments.
Grant that in all things they may seek to serve You.
Be with all of us, who will be serving today and this week.
To persons responsible for greeting and ushering, our welcoming committee, to those who have prepared fellowship.
I ask that you allow them to be a blessing this week for us and their families.
Lord, please fill all our hearts with your Spirit.
Help all of us who come before You this Sunday service to be true disciples and worshippers.
Help us to take the Lord's day seriously.
Prepare our hearts and minds as you enter into us with your love and support.
Lord, we give thanks for the blessings you have bestowed upon us.
But heavenly Father, I ask in the truest sense of Thanksgiving, that you lead this congregation to be thankful in just giving.
I ask these things humbly and in the name of Jesus Christ, as we seek Your presence and glory together in our worship this week.
Amen

Quiet Time Devotional

Psalms 27:1-14

  1. The Lord is my light and my salvation-whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life-of whom shall I be afraid?

  2. When evil men advance against me to devour my flesh, when my enemies and my foes attack me, they will stumble and fall.

  3. Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then will I be confident.

  4. One thing I ask of the Lord, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.

  5. For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle and set me high upon a rock.

  6. Then my head will be exalted above the enemies who surround me; at his tabernacle will I sacrifice with shouts of joy; I will sing and make music to the Lord.

  7. Hear my voice when I call, O Lord; be merciful to me and answer me.

  8. My heart says of you, “Seek his face!” Your face, Lord, I will seek.

  9. Do not hide your face from me, do not turn your servant away in anger; you have been my helper. Do not reject me or forsake me, O God my savior.

  10. Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me.

  11. Teach me your way, O Lord; lead me in a straight path because of my oppressors.

  12. Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes, for false witnesses rise up against me, breathing out violence.

  13. I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.

  14. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.

Do you know what it means to dwell in the house of the Lord? It is to be in the eye of the storm; to have absolute perfect peace in the midst of a hurricane. If I dwell in His house, I can ‘gaze upon His beauty’ (v.4) always. When Satan strikes, I can quickly find my Father and hide in His power and authority. In His house, I do not fall over Satan’s stumbling blocks and his well-disguised lies cannot fool me, stealing my joy.

How do I dwell in God’s house? By coming to Him daily in prayer with a sincere longing to be one with Him. By memorizing His words so that I may be careful to live by them(Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth . Meditate on it day and night so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. –Joshua 1:8). By constantly singing praises to Him in my heart or out loud as appropriate(I will sing and make music to the Lord.-V.6, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. –Colossians 3-16). By catching every opportunity to hear His word in the various ways He speaks to me(sermons, Christian literature, testimonials, etc.) By obeying  Jesus’ commands  to love and serve others and to spread the joy of the gospel. All these ways will keep me dwelling in the house of the Lord, so that I ‘will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living’(v.13). But I keep my eyes on the real prize, the hope for which I live; to live eternally in the glorious temple of my Father, solid as a rock and no longer vulnerable to Satan’s petty ploys.

Father, this day, help me to be faithful and wise to do the things necessary to keep me safe within your strong walls. Father, I am physically leaving this room now. My QT is over. My body will be going to many different places, doing various things throughout the day. But please, let my spirit and my heart stay right here with You, on my knees.

Psalms 10:1-18

  1. Why, O Lord, do you stand far off? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?
  2. In his arrogance the wicked man hunts down the weak, who are caught in the schemes he devises.
  3. He boasts of the cravings of his heart; he blesses the greedy and reviles the Lord.
  4. In his pride the wicked does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.
  5. His ways are always prosperous; he is haughty and your laws are far from him; he sneers at all his enemies.
  6. He says to himself, “Nothing will shake me; I’ll always be happy and never have trouble.”
  7. His mouth is full of curses and lies and threats; trouble and evil are under his tongue.
  8. He lies in wait near the villages; from ambush he murders the innocent, watching in secret for his victims.
  9. He lies in wait like a lion in cover; he lies in wait to catch the helpless; he catches the helpless and drags them off in his net.
  10. His victims are crushed, they collapse; they fall under his strength.
  11. He says to himself, “God has forgotten; he covers his face and never sees.”
  12. Arise, Lord! Lift up your hand, O God. Do not forget the helpless.
  13. Why does the wicked man revile God? Why does he say to himself, “He won’t call me to account”?
  14. But you, O God, do see trouble and grief; you consider it to take it in hand. The victim commits himself to you; you are the helper of the fatherless.
  15. Break the arm of the wicked and evil man; call him to account for his wickedness that would Not be found out.
  16. The Lord is King for ever and ever; the nations will perish from his land.
  17. You hear, O Lord, the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry,
  18. defending the fatherless and the oppressed, in order that man, who is of the earth, may terrify no more.

Our God is a God who always defends the rights of the weak. He is concerned with our smallest pains (v.17, 18). Verse 1 is not King David really questioning God's love and authority, but an expression of his troubled state of mind. When we are faced with overwhelming problems, it can feel as if God is hiding himself or is too busy to bother Himself with our problems. But that is just Satan using our lack of faith, to make us feel insecure about our relationship with our Father, and thereby, draw us far away from Him. Verses 2-13 expresses our outrage and frustrations at the ungodly and how, sometimes, it seems as if their plans proceed smoothly and successfully. They're able to get away with murder, literally, at times. But in verses 14-18, we see that there is justice, in God’s time, and also vindication and victory for us by His mighty hand. I always smile when I think of the image of God that Jesus presented in the parable of the Prodigal Son. My heart bursts with pride that I serve God, who doesn’t just peer down at us from a lofty throne, but forsaking all glory and disregarding convention, runs to meet me at my slightest cry and repentant heart. Dear loving Father, this day, enable me to not lose a single opportunity to praise Your Name. Let me publicly declare my love for you and pride in being your child.

Mosaic Prayer

Dear Lord - As we begin our second year with Mosaic, please watch over us. We need Your help to build a church and community that's pleasing to You. We want to touch the hearts and minds of people who don't know You or have been reluctant to understand Your words. Meanwhile strengthen our faith in Your everlasting love for each of us.

Create in me a clean heart and the strength to build a strong foundation for this ministry's growth. Bless Pastor David Chae with Your wisdom to lead this congregation. Inspire, guide, and push him to be the best he can be. Bless us with ideas and the necessary skills to build. Have the Holy Spirit light a fire within all of us, so we can be inspired. Push each of us to be our best. Provide us with passion, fortitude, and kindness as we create teams to build this foundation.

Lord, unite us. Let us share a common goal and vision. Each of us have individual needs and desires. Lord unite us. Let us be mindful of our neighbor's needs and give us the compassion and strength to help our neighbors. Lord unite us.

Lord, we thank You for the wonderful church You've built called Chodae. We want to continue what's been started here and build ever wider and higher. May this Mosaic ministry that Chodae started bear fruit in so many ways.

I come before You with a clean heart and humble mind as I pray all of these things in the precious name of Jesus Christ, your Son and our Savior. Amen
